Councilmember Jeffrey introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #10-06-122 <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STAFF TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH <br />KOHN BROTHERS LOGGING TO COMPLETE THE PINE TREE REMOVALS <br />AND DISPOSAL AS PART OF A FIREWISE GRANT <br />WHEREAS, predisposing agents, including drought, European pine sawflies, and <br />a hail event have weakened the defense systems of many pine trees, making them more <br />susceptible to certain pathogens, including Diplodia; and <br />WHEREAS, multiple stands of pines have exhibited symptoms of severe dieback <br />and/or death; and <br />WHEREAS, these stands of dead and/or dying pine trees pose a potential fire <br />hazard to surrounding homes and structures and, if left unmanaged, will provide ideal <br />breeding sites for pine bark beetles,. leading to potentially even greater tree losses; and <br />WHEREAS, through a joint effort between Ramsey and Andover, Staff has been <br />reviewing possible options that may be available to assist landowners most severely <br />impacted by this situation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cities of Ramsey and Andover were jointly awarded $8,500.00 <br />through MN DNR's Firewise program, to address the dead/dying pines; and <br />WHEREAS, Kohn Brothers Logging submitted a quote to complete the pine <br />removals and dispose of the materials in an amount not to exceed $8,500.00. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby authorizes Staff to enter into a contract, <br />jointly with the City of Andover, with Kohn Brothers Logging to remove and <br />properly dispose of dead and dying pines in an amount not to exceed $8,500.00. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mayor <br />Ramsey, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br />Mayor Ramsey <br />Councilmember Jeffrey <br />Councilmember Dehen <br />Councilmember Look <br />Councilmember McGone <br />Councilmember Wise <br />
