It will now
be called The Core Center for the City of Ramsey, and East Meandering Park. He stated that for
the park, they've considered naming it The Draw, and it would be called The Draw Park. This
name would be easier to remember. A draw is a geographic feature.
There was discussion that the Draw was not a favorable name. Core Park was preferred. This
park will be the home of an amphitheater. It was the consensus of the Commission that further
work is done in considering a name for the park. This park will be a center of Ramsey and
should reflect that.
Commissioner Backous suggested holding a naming contest for the community. He stated that
this would help the community create ownership of the park.
City Administrator Ulrich stated that they need a name to begin promoting the area in the next 3
weeks. He explained that the project has been secretive until recently.
Mayor Ramsey stated that there would ice skating in the winter and a warming house. He asked
that a location be identified for a fire pit.
Chairperson Shryock asked that the Commission send name suggestions to staff over the next
week or two. She thanked everyone for coming to the joint meeting.
Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that he will contact the Frisbee Golf Association about the
proposed project.
Mayor Ramsey asked about having a location for "street hockey."
Park Supervisor Riverblood stated that they are looking at paving a few hockey rinks so they
have multipurpose use. He explained that the rinks will be easier to freeze for ice hockey in the
winter because they do not need to wait until the ground freezes.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Commissioner Backous, seconded by Commissioner Barr, to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried.
Park and Recreation Commission/June 10, 2010
Page 6 of 7
