Areas Impacted by Shoreland and Wild & Scenic Overlay Districts
There are several bodies of water that have been given a shoreland management classification using
criteria under MN Rules pt. 6120.3300. The protected waters of the City that have been classified by the
commissioner of natural resources include Shake Eddy Lake, Lake Itasca, Jeglens Marsh, Peltzer Pond,
Rogers Lake, Sunfish Lake, Ramsey Terrace Pond, Magnesium Street Pond, Industry Avenue Pond
North, Industry Avenue Pond South, Trott Brook, and Ford Brook. The figure below depicts the areas
impacted by the Shoreland Overlay District.
In addition, areas along the Mississippi and Rum River are subject to protections of the Wild and Scenic
Rivers Overlay District. The areas along the Mississippi River share the same boundary as the MRCCA
Overlay District and contain overlapping regulations. The figure below depicts the areas impacted by the
Wild and Scenic Rivers Overlay District.
As stated in the previous section, the proposed Shoreland Rulemaking contemplates incorporation of
Wild and Scenic Rivers regulation in order to attempt to streamline administration of both regulations.
The City recommends an exemption in the Shoreland/Wild and Scenic Rules that defaults to MRCCA
regulations to avoid overlapping and confusing regulations.
126
