<br />City Engineer Himmer reviewed the staff report. <br /> <br />The. Committee discussed pedestrian access in the area and the alignment. <br /> <br />Ms. Terri Thatcher, property owner, summarized the background on her property, She stated she <br />was very motivated to sell her property and she would like to sell it to the City of Ramsey. She <br />noted she would like to sell her home sooner rather than later. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGlone inquired about a land swap situation. He asked if the City could <br />purchase a home for the resident and then purchase their property for a nominal amount. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olsen responded there were some residential sites that could be swapped, <br />but those properties were not ready at this time. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGlone stated he liked the east alignment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated he did not like the idea of the City being a landlord and if <br />properties are to be acquired, then all of the properties should be acquired at once, He stated if <br />this road was a priority then the City needed to move ahead, but if it was not a priority, then the <br />City should not do it. He noted it needed to be determined if this road was a want or a need. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson stated this would enhance the transportation system and connect <br />ability to Town Center, but this was also the only location on 116 between Armstrong and <br />Ramsey where there would be a signal. <br /> <br />Chairperson Elvig stated it was also important for pedestrian access from north to south on the <br />western side of the City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen recommended the City have a neighborhood meeting to gauge interest in <br />this project. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey stated he believed the City should stick to an alignment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated he disagreed with picking an alignment because it would drive up <br />the acquisition costs, <br /> <br />Councilmember McGlone stated he did not believe it would drive up acquisition costs. He <br />wanted to pick up an alignment and proceed forward. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated he wanted both alignments presented at the neighborhood meeting. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Dehen, seconded by Chairperson Elvig, to recommend to the City <br />Council that letters are sent to each property owner to set up a meeting on both the east side and <br />the west side to discuss the potential of a road going from Bunker Lake Blvd all of the way up to <br />Variolite Street. <br /> <br />Public Works Committee / June 15,2010 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />
