CASE # 3

UPGRADES TO WELL HOUSE #3 EXTERUIR
By: John Nelson Utilities Supervisor

Background:

City well #5 was completed in 2000 and well house #3 was constructed to house well #5 in 2001,
In 2004 well #6 was constructed on the corner of Zeolite St and Civic Center Drive. Well #6 is
piped to well house #3, where the raw water is chemically treated. The interior of this well house
was completed as part of the project in 2001; however the exterior was left unfinished. The
reasoning behind that decision was to match the exterior to the surrounding buildings when
development occurred. The current exterior of the building is unfinished masonry block. With
the current additions to the down town area, including the amphitheater, farmers market and the
Allina Clinic, staff feels it would be appropriate to start discussing the exterior finish of well
house #3.

Funding:

This project was added to the CIP in 2004 and was assigned Capital Improvement Project
#04- WTR-005 with a total project cost of $60,000,

Staff Recommendation:

Request for quotes for architectural services for:'
. Selecting an exterior design
. Adding building security
. Removal of propane tank system and pipe natural gas to site
. If funding is available, extend road to well house #3

Committee Action:

Motion to accept/reject staffs recommendation and forward to City Council for approval.

Reviewed By:
Director of Public Works/Principal City Engineer
City Engineer

PW: 07/20/10
