a baseline and identify where possible walking and biking
improvements can be made.
o FYI -The League of American Bicyclist's, Bicycle Friendly Community
C~
http: J/www.bikeleague.org/pro rg ams/bicvclefriendlyamerica/comm
unities
• Identify walking and biking routes for commuting, recreation, and leisure
activities within the City of Ramsey of various lengths that will actively
promote walking and biking within the City of Ramsey.
• Name and map various trail length loops for walking and biking within the
City of Ramsey.
• Develop park and trail descriptions to promote physical activity for the City
of Ramsey web site.
• Identify missing links/gaps in the trail and sidewalk network, prioritize the
segments, and develop a plan and design for the highest priorities. Integrate
this with the city's Capital Improvement Program and any Anoka County
Highway Department scheduled improvements.
• Create a citywide map of all sidewalks and trails including connections to
bordering communities.
• Post trail loops on the city's web site, including health benefits of walking
(E.g. calories burned per kilometer etc.) and place corresponding article in
the Ramsey Resident and prepare spot on QCTV.
• Create wayfinding and directional signs to guide residents to and around the
trail loops.
Ramsey Community Intervention #2 -Estimated Investment by SHIP $5,000
Equipment -Canoes and kayaks for Sunfish Lake
As a SHIP `partner,' the city will have the option to spend up to a maximum of $5,000 for
approved equipment purchases that must relate to SHIP Community Intervention guidelines. For
the canoe system (discussed by the Finance Committee in June 2010), all other elements like the
security system would need to be in place in order to for this equipment purchase to be approved.
If it is not approved by City Council, then alternative equipment investments can be considered,
such as secured paddle boats for The Draw, or public bikes to be associated with the parking
ramp in The COR as an example.
Staff will review the program elements in greater detail if desired at the meeting. Additional
information is available at: www.partnershipforbetterhealthanokacounty com/
Funding:
This program if approved would not require any city match*, and certain aspects of the program
would result in SHIP dollars being infused into the General Fund in 2011, to compensate for
staff time that may be expended in this endeavor. The following is the estimated breakout of the
where the SHIP monies would be directed:
• Consultant or combination of Intern and consultant $19,500
