Case #3: REVIEW OF THE 2010 RAMSEY BUSINESS EXPO
Management Intern Hendricks gave the EDA an update on the 2010 Ramsey Business Expo that
was held on May 15` at the PACT Charter School.
Member Skaff stated that he attended the expo and said that a great job was done.
Member Riley said he was unable to attend, but he heard great things about it. Member Riley
questioned whether or not we want to continue to hold this event every year.
Management Intern Hendricks explained that it is difficult to keep the momentum going if an event
is only held every other year.
Member LeTourneau asked if there was good synergy with the Tree Expo.
Management Intern Hendricks answered by saying how beneficial it is to be able to share the
advertising expense with the Tree Expo. The only suggestion for the event for next year is to look
into renting additional tables. Businesses were turned away this year due to space constraints, and
she feels there will be no problem filling the cafetorium at PACT Charter School for next year's
event.
Case #4: STAFF UPDATE
Deputy City Administrator/Community Development Director Nelson presented the Staff Update.
The upcoming ICSC (International Council Shopping Center) conference will mark the soft roll-out
of the new branding image. The group is looking forward to receiving feedback regarding the new
image. The event runs from noon on Sunday, May 23 until the afternoon of Tuesday, May 25.
Appointments have been prescheduled with ICSC conference attendees:
The Allina Clinic is still expected to break ground in June.
Staff is still waiting for an answer regarding the VA Clinic. The City of Ramsey is still being
considered as a building site, but it is unknown at this time if other cities are also being considered.
The Minnesota Legislature passed special legislation authorizing the City of Ramsey to establish a
redevelopment tax increment financing (TIF) district aimed at providing financial assistance
relating to construction expenses of the Northstar Transit Station and related infrastructure.
The License Center is scheduled to open in mid-June.
MEMBER INPUT
None
Economic Development Authority /May 21, 2010
Page 4 of 5
