Cam- t
E 05
UPDATE FOR WELL HOUSE #3 EXTERIOR
By: John Nelson, Utilities Supervisor
Background:
At the September Public Works Committee meeting staff was asked to acquire quotes for the
improvement of the unfinished exterior of the well house and removal of the 1000 gallon
propane tank and to hook up natural gas to the site.
Quotes for an exterior paint to cover the 1,584 sq. foot exterior ranged from $168 to $200, the
labor could be handled internally.
CenterPoint Energy quoted a price of $6,800 to run the needed 300' of natural gas line to the site.
This price is good until October l'`, after that frost charges will be added.
Quotes for security upgrades for this site have been received from two contractors that equal
$2,200. This upgrade utilizes our existing SCADA system and will not need an additional
monthly phone /security company charge.
A quotation is being prepared for the conversion of our existing emergency generator to operate
on natural gas.
Recommendations:
It was the recommendation of the Public Works Committee to follow staffs recommendation to
paint the building's exterior utilizing public works staff, remove the propane system and add a
natural gas supply, upgrade existing heaters and generator, and adding security measures to this
site.
The Public Works Committee further directed that this case be sent to City Council at the earliest
opportunity to avoid extra "frost" charges associated with cold weather construction.
Funding:
These upgrades would be funded by the Water Utility Capitol Improvement Project #4 -WTR-
005. The costs are estimated as follows:
Painting
$ 200
Center Point -Gas
$6,800
Security Upgrade
$2,200
Generator & furnaces conversion
Quotations being sought
Council Action:
Motion to approve the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.
CC: 09/28/10
