CONSIDER FALL/WINTER 2010 AND SPRING 2011 ICSC CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION By: Heidi A. Nelson, HRA Executive Director Background: In late 2009 and in 2010, Development Management Staff and members of the HRA attended International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference and trade show events in an effort to bring Ramsey's downtown development project, The COR, to the retail market. There are upcoming opportunities to participate in ICSC conferences this fall as well as planning for the 2011 trade show. The upcoming conference schedule is as follows: Chicago Deal Making: October 28 & 29, 2010 The purpose of attendance at this conference would be to continue to have a presence for The COR project with retailers and developers, meet with potential developers and follow-up with developers that we met with at ICSC Recon this past May. Staff recommends sending a limited team to the Chicago conference. Michael Greeby will be in attendance at the Chicago Deal Making conference and will coordinate meetings and represent the project as well. Estimated cost to send two Development Management Team representatives to the Chicago Deal Making Show is $2,500, which includes some additional marketing materials for the conference. CenterBuild Conference: December 1 -3, 2010 The purpose of attendance at this conference is for training and continuing education for Development Management Team staff as well as continuing the presence of The COR project with the retail market and meeting with potential developers. A proposal has been submitted to ICSC for a presentation of public -private partnerships to be made at the conference by Development Manager Lazan and HRA Executive Director Nelson. Estimated cost to send two Development Management Team representatives to the Centerbuild Conference is $3,500, which includes some additional marketing materials for the conference. ICSC Recon: May 22 -25, 2011 This past year at Recon, the HRA secured a booth in the main hall for presenting The COR to developers and retailers. Planning is underway for Recon 2011. Staff is seeking direction with regard to the desire of the HRA to continue its presence at the conference with a booth in the main hall and whether any changes to the 2010 Recon booth for The COR are desired. Funding for conference attendance and marketing materials would be from the HRA budget.
