CONSENT # G , C7'- I
INTRODUCE ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 04-33 TO PROVIDE FOR
REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE PURCHASE OF A COMPUTER
By: Kurt Ulrich, City Administrator
Background:
During the Mayor /Council Input portion of the Council work session on Tuesday, October 5,
Mayor Ramsey suggested the Council consider allowing Councilmembers to purchase their own
computer equipment and be reimbursed by the City. A not -to- exceed amount would be set and
reimbursed with the submittal of a receipt showing proof of the cost.
Discussion ensued and consensus of the Council was that they were interested in this proposal at
a not -to- exceed amount of $800. Council directed staff to bring a consent item back to the City
Council for formal vote.
Since the intent of this provision is that the equipment would be owned by the Councilmember, it
would be taxable, and considered a salary compensation increase. Council compensation
increases are done by ordinance. The attached ordinance has been drafted which would amend
the ordinance authorizing the last Council salary increase. The annual salary will remain the
same but the reimbursement for computers would be added as a benefit. Under the proposal, the
Councilmember may refuse the benefit and simply borrow a computer from the City for City
Council use, as is the current practice.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff is recommending Council review and introduce the attached ordinance. This ordinance will
then be placed on the October 26 Council agenda for formal adoption.
Council Action:
Motion to introduce an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 04 -33 to provide for reimbursement
for the purchase of a computer, effective January 1, 2011.
Reviewed by:
City Clerk
City Attorney
City Adminis
CC:
