CONSENT # S do ADOPT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AGREEMENT FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE DWI TASK FORCE GRANT WITH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND THE BLAINE POLICE DEPARTMENT AS THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE GRANT By: Police Chief Jim Way Background: The Ramsey Police Department has participated in the Anoka County DWI Task Force for several years. The Task Force was recently awarded a $200,000 grant for DWI enforcement from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The City of Blaine and the Blaine Police Department have agreed to act as the administrator and fiscal agent for the grant. The Blaine Police Department will receive $20,000 from the grant to cover the costs of administering the program. It is anticipated the grant will be renewed for 2012 and 2013. The Anoka County Task Force needs a resolution adopted by the Council authorizing the City of Ramsey to enter into a grant agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for DWI Enforcement for the period from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2013. The resolution also needs to allow City of Blaine, the Blaine Police Department and the Blaine Police Chief to be the fiscal agent and administrator of the grant. Recommendation: Staff recommends Council adopt the Resolution authorizing the execution of the required agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and allowing the the City of Blaine to administer the grant. Council Action: Motion to adopt Resolution #10- 10 -XXX , authorizing the execution of the agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and the City of Blaine for the DWI Task Force Grant.
