I <br /> <br />PC CASE <br /> <br />AUTHORIZE HIRING OF ENGENEER/NG TECHNICIAN IV <br /> By: Heidi Nelson, Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br />As a part of its 2001 budget, Council authorized an Engineering Technician IV position. <br />The position was posted internally, there were no internal applicants. The position was <br />advertised externally and five applications were received. The applications were reviewed <br />and three candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of the Public Works Director, <br />Principal City Engineer, City Engineer, and Assistant City Administratorl Based on the <br />panel's recommendation, staff is recommending hiring Michael McDowell for the position <br />of Engineering Technician IV. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff is recommending Michael McDowell for the position of full-time Engineering <br />Technician IV at a starting wage of $21.73/hour plus benefits and will accrue two weeks <br />of vacation per year. Please note that this starting wage represents the 2001 rate pending <br />union contract settlement. 1Vh'. McDowell's hiring would be contingent on successful <br />completion of background checks and he must pass an employment physical and <br />drug/alcohol screen. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend Michael McDowell for the position of full-time Public Works <br />Maintenance Worker at a starting wage of $22.40/hour plus benefits and two weeks <br />vacation, contingent on successful completion of background checks, employment <br />physical, and drug/alcohol screen. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br />City Administrator <br />Director of Public Works <br />Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br />PC: 04/23/02 <br /> <br />-197- <br /> <br /> <br />
