Requisition of Credit Card
By Sgt. Jim Way

Background:

The Police Department has been using a credit card for various purposes. From time to
time, the police department makes purchases that require a credit card number in order to
complete the purchase. Several of the companies that equipment is purchased from will
not accept a City Purchase Order Number and a credit card must be used. Also, some of
the training that officers attend requires a credit card number to hold the spot in the class.
Often times, officers have had to travel outside the city in city vehicles and gasoline has
been purchased using a credit card.

During a recent audit of the City of Ramsey, it was learned that the City Council must
first approve the requisition of a credit card. This was an oversight by the Police
Department in not getting prior approval to secure a credit card.

Recommendation:

Allow the continued use of the Community First Visa card by a very limited number of
police employees; Sgt. Way, Sgt. Dwyer, Crime Prevention Specialist Kreyer and Office
Manager Wiemann.

Council Action:

Motion to allow the Police Department to continue to use the previously obtained
Community First Visa card.

Reviewed by:

Finance Officer
City Administrator
Police Chief

-51-
