Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPOINTMENT OF <br /> JAMES F. waY TO THE POSITION OF INTERIM POLICE CHIEF <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, City Council accepted the resignation of Police Chief David Gustafson on <br />October 22nd, 2002 to be effective November 4th, 2002; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a vacancy was thereby created in the Police Department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sergeant James F. Way has served in the Ramsey Police Department for 17 <br />years and has provided outstanding leadership throughout his career; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sergeant James F. Way attended and graduated from the FBI National <br />Academy in 2000 where he received training in the areas of budget forecasting, legal issues, <br />communications, forensic science, and personnel; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, James F. Way has served as First Sergeant for the Ramsey Police <br />Department since January Ist, 2001; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sergeant James F. Way has been interviewed by the City Administrator and <br />is recommended to the City Council to be appointed to the position of Interim Police Chief. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOICA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) City Council appoints Police Sargent James F. Way to the position of Interim Police Chief <br /> effective November 5th 2002, at 12:01 a.m. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That James Way will be compensated at an interim annual rate of $67,289 and will accrue <br />vacation according to City Policy. Mr. Way has already undergone background and <br />reference checks. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Council member <br />, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />mad the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council <br />this the 22"d day of October 2002. <br /> <br /> <br />
