Village of Johnson Creek: <br />• Adopted Sustainable Community Policy <br />• Require all public facilities be LEED certified <br />Duluth: <br />• Passed resolution May, 2006 adopting APA sustainability objectives <br />• "Climate Idols" an educational competition where the households will take up the <br />challenge to test and find new ways toward the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions. <br />The families will have a chance to discover if it is possible to live "climate smart" in <br />Duluth and Thunder Bay in 2010 -2011. <br />• Citizen group — Sustainable Duluth <br />Other Wisconsin communities currently exploring becoming an eco- municipality or sustainable <br />community or have recently joined: the Counties of: Douglas; the cities of: Fort Atkinson, <br />Grellton, Jefferson, Palmyra, Port Washington, Viroqua, Waterloo, Watertown, Whitewater, <br />Monona, Wausau, Stevens Point, Washburn, Village of Spring Green, Sheboygan, Reedsburg, <br />Shorewood, and Oregon. <br />Citizens of eco- municipalities develop sustainability practices at the individual, household, <br />business, municipal, and institutional levels throughout their communities. Their systematic <br />actions result in meeting human and community needs fairly and efficiently; reducing human <br />encroachment upon nature; reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and reducing build -up of toxic <br />metals, minerals, and synthetic chemicals. Sustainability practices have become the natural way <br />of doing things in eco - municipalities. <br />
