Councilmembers Anderson, Hendriksen, Kurak, Case #9: Met Council Livable Communities Grant City Administrator Norman stated that the City has received verbal notification that the City wilt be receiving a $800,000 grant. Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if the grant Was fOr the construction of Sunwood Drive. · City Administrator Norman replied yes. Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if it would cost around $5 million to construct Sunwood Drive. Principal Planner Trudgeon replied yes. . Councilmember Hendriksen stated that they need to understand that $800,000 i's only 20 percent of the cost to construct Sunwood Drive. He inquired as to what the City's plan was to pay the balance of the amount. Mayor Gamec replied that that is something they will:have to discuSs, but until they decidemhat they are going to do with the town center they can't proceed.- Councilmember Hendriksen cautioned that unless an improvement project is petitioned by the property owners, the City is limited as. to the costs that can be assessed. He stated that the City needs to be cautious about that if they proceed and accept the grant that requires the City to construct $5 million dollars o£road. City Council/November 26, 2002 Page 21 of 23
