PARTICIPATION IN THE SAFE AND SOBER PROGRAM <br />Ramsey Police Department <br /> Sgt. Way <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Ramsey Police Department engages in numerous activities to ensure the <br />safety of the citizens of Ramsey. Some of these activities include traffic <br />safety education and enforcement. The State of Minnesota developed a <br />program called Safe and Sober to encourage and supplement the efforts of <br />communities in fulfilling the obligation to provide safer streets. The <br />Ramsey Police Department has participated in the grant program in the past <br />along with other Anoka County law enforcement agencies. The grant will <br />cover training costs and officer wages while performing traffic enforcement. <br />The grant program will run from October 1, 2002 through September 30, <br />2003. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends entering into a grant agreement with the Minnesota <br />department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety for the project entitled <br />Safe & Sober Communities. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion for a resolution authorizing the Ramsey Police Department to <br />participate in the Safe & Sober Grant program and enter into the grant <br />agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br /> <br />Police Chief <br />City Administrator <br />Finance Officer <br />City Attorney <br /> <br /> <br />
