-338- UPDATE ON PUBLIC WORKS CAN[PUS By: Brian E. Olson, Principal City Engineer P.W CASE Background: Over the past few months, Staff and Council have discussed the Public Works facility located near the intersection of Jaspar Street and 142nd Avenue NW. On July 23, 2002, Council introduced an ordinance that would vacate a section of 142nd Avenue NW between the north and south Public Works sites. This ordinance was adopted on August 13, 2002. One of the questions that arose from that vacation process was the possibility of creating a culdesac for vehicles that enter the new dead end street. Staff has looked at the two locations that are possible for this culdesac and are recommending that the culdesac be located at the intersection of 142~a Avenue NW and Limonite Street. There are not any local accesses on 142nd Street NW east of Limonite Street NW and currently no need to plow that section of street. The purpose of this case is to update you on the project and acquire a consensus to the location of the culdesac. The construction season is coming to a close and we anticipate that upon the vacation ordinance becoming effective (30 days after adoption) that we will begin on the grading work necessary to facilitate the screening and ponding along the west side of the property. This will all be done with City personneI and not result in significant expenditures of public moneys. We .are currently working on the plan to submit to the LRRWMO for approval and anticipate that to be received in September, if necessary. More information will be available for the meeting on Monday night. Committee Action: Motion to authorize Staff to begin the necessary procedures to locate a culdesac at the intersection of Limonite Street NW-and 142~a Avenue NW.
