3) Update and Status of the Close -Out of Sweetbay Ridge Subdivision
Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated the purpose of this report is to inform Council on activity
relating to the work on Stage 1 improvements for SweetBay Ridge subdivision and to receive
concurrence on what staff is planning to do to complete the project. Everything we need will be
fully funded. At this time, we feel the trail on the east side of Rhinestone probably was not
correctly recorded; however, the residents on that east side said they were told the boardwalk
would not be going in. Therefore, staff identified other alternatives. The residents would prefer
a bike lane on the east side of Rhinestone. Staff also supports that alternative. Mr. Riverblood
stated that if Council were accepting of this alternative, he would place it on the Consent Agenda
for formal approval on October 12.
Councilmember Dehen asked why we are sticking in a bike lane now if it wasn't in the plan
before.
Mr. Riverblood responded we had a boardwalk in the plans before. All exhibits showed a
boardwalk on the east side, but some or all of the residents in that area have accepted the
resolution of the confusion surrounding the boardwalk and agree with elimination of it and
striping a bike lane on that section of the street instead. He added that, in reality, the bank is
unable to complete these improvements and the City is basically "picking up the mess ".
Councilmember McGlone stated there are already sidewalks — why not increase them.
City Engineer Himmer gave some reasons why that would not work — including eliminating
snow storage and relocating hydrants.
Consensus of the Council was to bring back the bike lane concept for approval.
4) Discuss City Manager /City Administrator Ballot Question
Due to lack of time, this topic report will be on the next Council Work Session for discussion.
ADJOURNMENT
Consensus was to adjourn the work session.
The City Council Work Session was adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
KLYrtis G. Ulrich
City Administrator
City Council Work Session/September 28, 2010
Page
