PC CASE

APPOINTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AND
PUBLIC SAFETY BOARD MEMBERS
By: Heidi Nelson, Assistant City Administrator

Background:
Due to recent resignations of two members of the Economic Development Authority and
a vacancy on the Public Safety Board, a recruitment process to fill these vacancies was
initiated in late April. A notice was placed in the Ramsey Resident as well as published
in the City's legal newspaper, the Anoka County Union on May 25th, 2002. In addition to
the letters received as a result of the recruitment advertisements, individuals who had
participated in a recruitment for EDA, Planning Comission, and the Park Board earlier
this year and were not appointed, were contacted and offered the opportunity to interview
again if they were still interested in serving on a Board/Commission. At a work session
on June 4th, 2002, Council interviewed seven applicants, five for the EDA and two for the
Public Safety Board. The recommendation of the interview panel, which also included
Christopher Riley, Chair of the EDA, was to appoint Alison Ward to the Public Safety
Board for a term of four years and Jim Steffen and Keith Kiefer to the EDA for terms that
will expire on December 31, 2004.

Staff Recommendation:

Based upon the recommendation of the interview panel of June 4th, 2002, appoint Alison
Ward to the Public Safety Board and Jim Steffen and Keith Kiefer to Economic
Development Authority.

Committee Action:

Motion to appoint Alison Ward to the Public Safety Board for a term of four years and
Jim Steffen and Keith Kiefer to Economic Development Authority for terms that will

expire on December 31, 2004.

Reviewed by:
City Administrator
Assistant City Administrator

t 9. 4/

PC: 06/11/02

-243-
