The City has, in the past, granted conditional <br />use permits for extra signage at other multi-tenant buildings such as River's Bend Plaza, Ramsey <br />Town Square, and M&G Leasing. The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on <br />May 2 regarding the request for additional sign space. There were no verbal or written <br />comments submitted at the hearing. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the <br />request for additional sign space at Rum River Plaza. The Commission also agreed that during <br />the Chapter 9 review and update, consideration should be given to increasing the sign space <br />allowances for commercial development that accommodate multiple tenants. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated that she had recalled that there was one other non-conforming <br />sign in the area and questioned what happened in that case. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Frolik replied that she believed that they had removed one of <br />the signs, but will research that information. <br /> <br />Councihnember Zimmerman stated that they need to have the Planning Commission review the <br />sign ordinance because they are granting to many conditional use permits. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to adoPt <br />Resolution #02-05- adopting Findings of Fact # in the affirmative, relating to Bob <br />Muller's request for a conditional use permit to exceed sign size restrictions established in City <br />Code. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Hendriksen, <br />Anderson, and Kurak. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Kurak, to approve Bob <br />Muller's request to exceed sign size restrictions based on the findings of fact, and adopt <br />Resolution #02-05- declaring terms of conditional use permit. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Mayor Gamec recommended that the wood sign be removed from the <br />property. Staff noted that they would look into that issue further. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Kurak, Anderson, <br />and Hendriksen. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #10: <br /> <br />Request for an Extension to Implement the Conditional Use Permit for a <br />Recycling Facility for Metals and Landscape Timbers; Case of St. Paul <br />Terminals, Inc. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Frolik stated that on June 26, 2001, the City issued a <br />conditional use permit to St. Paul Terminals to operate a recycling processing facility for metals <br />and landscape timbers at 14050 Basalt St. NW (site formerly occupied by Danny's Aluminum <br /> <br />City Council/May 14, 2002 <br />Page 25 of 33 <br /> <br />-81- <br /> <br /> <br />
