I
I
I

I

I

FC CASE #

APPROVE CENTRAL PARK'S ENTRANCE PROJECT
By: Mark Boos, Parks & Utilities Supervisor

Background:

Over the course of the last year, the Park and Recreation Commission and City Council
have been refining the Central Park Entrance project to meet the objectives of achieving a
quality and a appealing product, at a reasonable cost.

This past winter Council authorized $28,000 from the Lawful Gambling Improvement
Fund to initiate the project. Concept Plans were prepared and provided to the
Commission and City Council.

During March 2002, detailed plans and specifications were finalized, with April 4, 2002
as the deadline for submitting quotations.

Observations:

The specifications dealt with several major categories, which are summarized as follows:

· Sign work
Boulder wall
Boulders and edging
Paved path
Trees
· Shrubs and perennial plants
· Sod
· Perennial wildflower seeding
· Hardwood mulch
· Edging

Six individual contractors provided quotes on this project, three on the sig, n work and
three that bid on all of the wall and landscape elements.

The sign bids came in at $9,893.75, $14,869 and $16,889 dollars.
The wall and landscape quotes were $56,368', $59,082 and $65,648 dollars.

Combining the lowest quote on the sign and the middle quote on the landscape, (*the low
bid did not include the path), results in a project cost of $68,975.75 dollars.

However, by separating some of the elements the project cost can be reduced $9,365.82
dollars, for a total of $59,609.93. City forces in any instance will be hauling soil and
providing grading of the site, in addition to inspections and coordination of the various
trades.

-209-
