-228-

The Committee recommended adopting the attached policy as an interim policy to be used as a general
guideline during the rewrite of Chapter 9.

Since the Public Works Committee meeting, the policy has been used in the development of site plans for
the Evergreen Point Townhomes, Birch Hill Lodges, The Ponds, Eighty Seven LLC and ACCAP. The
policy has largely been successful except for length criteria. Staff is recommending the maximum length
of a private street with a cul-de-sac be changed from 300 feet to 600 feet (the same length as a public cul-
de-sac0

Council Action:

Motion to ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee and to change the
maximum length of a private street with a cul-de-sac from 300 feet to 600 feet.

Case #4

Update on Sunfish Business Park

Background:

The county has recently modified its policy to now require both left and right turn lanes on county roads.
where new street accesses are to be constructed. The City is in the process of constructing three such new
intersections in 2002, Sunwood Drive and CR116, Sunwood Drive and CR 57, and Azurite Street and
CR116. An agreement negotiated with the County would have the City install both left and right turn
lanes at Sunwood Drive and CR116 while allowing only the construction of a right turn lane at Azurite
Street and CR116. The County would construct right and left turn lanes at the intersection of Sunfish
Lake Boulevard and Sunwood Drive as they are considering an overlay project for that section of Sunfish
Lake Boulevard. The city would be responsible for the costs associated with the southbound right turn
lane on Sunfish Lake Boulevard, Since the intersection at Sunwood and CR116 was originally designed
and approved without left turn lanes, it will be necessary to issue a change order to allow for this extra
work.

The Committee recommended that staff have a change order prepared for the addition of left turn lanes at
the intersection of Sunwood Drive and CR116.

Council Action:

Motion to ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Public Works Director

CC: 03/12/02

I
I
I
I

I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
i
I
I
I
I
