-304-

Initial Response to Emergencies

Duty Officer Response
The Ramsey Fire Department utilizes a Duty Officer program. This involves up to
2 Firefighters with command experience to respond directly to the incident. On
arrival they make a size up of the situation including:
-What is happening, lives in danger, what is burning, how many buildings,
etc
-How many apparatus are needed
-How many staff are required
-Additional Resources needed

This information is communicated by radio to both responding staff and Anoka
County dispatch,

Automatic Mutual Aid
The Elk River~ Fire Department has agreed that if Ramsey is awarded the fire
services contract, both departments will respond automatically to confirmed
structure fires. This will be effective through out Burns Township. The benefit of
this agreement would be that two fire departments would be automatically
dispatched to confirmed structure fires. No additional cost will be incurred. (See
fees section)

Staffing Levels
Currently Ramsey has over 30 firefighters on staff. 2 of these positions, Fire
Chief and Fire inspector are full time positions. All non-probationary positions are
trained to State Certified Fire Fighter1 and First Responder.

Day staffing levels will average ten fire fighters while evening and weekend will
average around twenty.

Other Mutual Aid
RFD is a member of both the North Suburban Mutual Aid and Anoka County Fire
Protection groups. Any fire department within these two groups can be called to
assist RFD at no additional cost to the township.

Equipment List
See page 7

I
I
I
I
I
I

I
I,
I

I
I'
I

I
I
I
I
I
