REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE <br /> By: Public Works Staff <br /> <br />CASE #: <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 and discussed the following <br />three cases: <br /> <br />Case #1: 2002 Street Maintenance Program <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />'Staff presented an overview of the streets scheduled for the 2002 Street Maintenance Program. <br />This is an annual program which involves the comprehensive maintenance of the City's 137 <br />miles of paved roadway, The Committee was advised of specific roads and subdivisions which <br />were scheduled for the 2002 program along with an analysis of the financing for the program. <br />The 2002 Program will include work on the City Municipal State Aid (MSA) street system. <br />Approximately 50 percent of the total program cost will be financed with MSA construction <br />funds. <br /> <br />Staff also indicated that a revised projection of future financing requirements would be provided <br />at the February 2002 Public Works meeting and that these forecasts would be incorporated into <br />future five year C2 documents. <br /> <br />Staff also presented a listing of City of Ramsey assessment practices which have evolved as a <br />result of Council directives at previous assessment hearings. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to direct staff to prepare a feasibility study for the 2002 Street Maintenance Program. <br /> <br />Case #2 <br /> <br />Discuss Property Acquisition Policy Along CR 116 <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Committee discussed the need to acquire right-of-way along CR 116 in conjunction with <br />anticipated improvements consistent with the corridor plan which is currently being prepared. <br />Specifically, the Committee was interested in how it should address the property, located at 5515 <br />Industry Avenue which currently is listed for sale. Secondly, the more general question as to <br />how needed fight-of-way would be financed. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Recommendation that staff talk to the County first because Councilmember Zimmerman thinks <br />the County is already having conversations with the property owner. Councilmember <br />Zimmerman stated that he would like to have some sort of written agreement as to who will buy <br />the necessary fight-of-way and what will each City be obligated to as well as the County. <br /> <br />-309- <br /> <br /> <br />
