City Engineer Jankowski explained that it would create a problem because there is already a
section of roadway between Ramsey Boulevard and Hematite Street that has the name 153rd
Avenue south of 155"' Avenue.

Mayor Gamec stated that he likes the idea of renaming the street so that it is consistent
throughout the City. The issue of mail and credit cards, he explained the post office would
continue to deliver mail to the old street name for several years.

Councilmember Zimmerman stated that there are very good reasons for changing the street
name. One of those reasons is that Police and Fire would be able to respond more efficiently. In
regards to the name Alpine Drive, the Council could consider a different name if the residents are
dissatisfied with the name that has been selected.

Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Kurak, to direct staff to
draft .an ordinance for the renaming of portions of 153rp Avenue NW and 155th Avenue NW with
the name of the street to be determined at the time the ordinance is considered.

Further discussion: Councilmember Zimmerman suggested requesting name suggestions from
the residents in the Ramsey Resident.

Motion carried. Voting 'Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Kurak, Anderson,
and Hendriksen. Voting No: None.

Case #3:

Public Hearing to Solicit Testimony on the Extension of the Center Median
on the Eastern Leg of County Road #116 with T.H. #47

Mayor Gamec closed the regular portion of the City Council meeting at 7:33 p.m. in order to call
the public hearing to order.

Public Hearing

Mayor Gamec called the public hearing to order at 7:33 p.m.

Presentation

City Engineer Jankowski stated that the proposed extension of the east leg of the median on C.R.
#116 would physically prohibit left tums from C.R. #116 into the Rix>er's Bend Plaza and Texaco
Station (a.k.a. Hot Stop Station) and left tums front these developments onto C.R. #116. The
reason for considering this prohibition is two fold. First, this location has had a high incidence of
traffic accidents. Mr. Jankowski presented the Council with a listing of the ten locations in the
City having the highest accident frequency over the past eight years. Only the intersection of
Highway #10 and C.R. #57 has a higher number of accidents over this period, and this

City Council/February 13, 2001

-57-
