I

I

CASE #

PUBLIC HEARING oN THE PROPOSED RENAMING OF 149TM AVEUNE N.W. EAST
OF TRUNK HIGHWAY #47 TO SUNWOOD DRIVE N.W.
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Attached is a map illustrating a segment of 149th Avenue N.W. which is being proposed to be
renamed Sunwood Drive N.W. This is a segment of collector street which currently extends
from Trunk Highway #47 to County Road #57 (Sunfish Lake Boulevard N,W.). Another
segment of Sunwood Drive exists between County Road #116 and County Road #56, and the
section between County Road #57 and County Road #116 is planned for construction in 2001. It
is likely that Sunwood Drive will also be extended through section 28 to Armstrong Boulevard
N.W. and possibly beyond. This planned roadway has been constructed in segments with the
vision of establishing continuous collect street. Since 149th Avenue N.W. is-also a collector
roadway, although not originally envisioned in its current alignment with Sunwood Drive, .it
would be less confusing for 149tt' Avenue N.W. to have a name consistent with its extension
west across Trunk Highway #47.

This name change would not require any address changes, since alt properties abutting 149th
Avenue have front yards and addresses on the residential side streets.

Council Action:

Following the public hearing the next step toward implementing the street name change would
be to order the introduction of an ordinance making the name change. This can be done
immediately after the public hearing or at a future meeting.

Reviewed by:

Assistant City Administrator
Police Chief
Director of' Public Works

CC: 02/13/01

-159-
