I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I Consent Agenda Item # 3 REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO APPOINT AMVET AS THE VETERINARIAN CLINIC FOR RAMSEY'S ANNUAL PET CLINIC By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk Background: As you know, the City of Ramsey hosts a pet clinic every year, which is very well attended - and appreciated - by Ramsey's residents. Each year staff sends out a letter to approximately 12 area veterinarians requesting a bid to administer shots at the pet clinic. Staff also places an ad in the Anoka Union requesting same. Since 1994, the City has received only one response to the request and that has been from Dr. Gilgenbach of AMVET in Elk River. In 1998, Dr. Gilgenbach inquired if he could be appointed the veterinarian for the clinic as opposed to having to go through a bid process. He vowed to keep his prices very competitive, but the advantage to him would be that he could plan well in advance for the number of staff he would need, etc. I contacted the Cities of Andover, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Ham Lake, and Oak Grove, and they have all appointed a veterinarian clinic that they work with each year. I am again asking Council for permission to appoint AMVET as the veterinarian clinic to do Ramsey's pet clinic. Appointing a veterinarian would save time and money and my experiences with Dr. Gilgenbach and his staff have been very pleasant. They are professional and courteous and bring more than a sufficient number of staff to efficiently work the clinic. Council Action: Motion to authorize staff to appoint AMVET as the veterinarian clinic for Ramsey's annual pet clinic.
