I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

CASE #

INTRODUCE ORDINANCE RENAMING PORTION OF 153m) AVENUE N.W. AND
155T}I AVENUE N.W.
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Attached is a map which identifies the segments of 153rd Avenue N.W. which serve the City as
an east/west collector street with the completion of a 0.8 mile segment between 155th Avenue
N.W. and Variolite Street N.W. to 153rd Avenue N.W. to Armstrong Boulevard N.W. This
collector street will transverse the entire City, beginning at Roanoke Street N.W. near the Rum
River and ending at Highway #10 near the Elk River border. Because this road;vay has been
constructed in segments and because it transverses north and south for a distance of about 1,700
feet to' avoid wetlands, it has various names. (In addition to 153rd Avenue N.W. and 155th
Avenue N.W., some documents refer to the north/south segment between Hematite Street N.W.
and Ramsey Boulevard N.W. as Jaspar Street N.W.). A proposed street name change will
require new addresses for 25 residential properties, Allina Medical Clinic, Ramsey Pharmacy,
and the Links of Northfork golf course.

A public hearing was held on February 13, 2001. Some public comment fi.om that hearing
suggested that the purposed name change not occur. Other comments suggested that the
proposed new name of "Alpine Drive" be reconsidered. Additional comments suggested that
adequate time be allowed for implementation to allow for easier transition to the new name on
the part of businesses and residents affected by the address change. Council directed staff to
introduce an ordinance changing the street name. Because a new name for the roadway is not
certain, the ordinance is being introduce with a blank for the new name. A definite name will
need to be included before final adoption of the ordinance anticipated on April 23, 2001.

Council Action:

Motion to introduce Ordinance #01-XX effecting a name change for the above street effective on
and direct new name selection on process.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
City Attorney
Director of Public Works

CC: 04/10/01

-211-
