TRAFFIC CONSIDEtL4~TIONS By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer Background: At the November 2000 Public Works Committee, discussion took place on what measures might be undertaken on Waco Street N.W. to improve traffic safety. Specifically, the area of concern last fall was the segment of Waco Street N.W. between 149th Avenue N.W. (Sunwood Drive) and 150th Avenue N.W~ However, Waco Street has had a history of concerns relative to speed and traffic s/rice it functions as a collector street for the neighborhood .... The direction provided by the Committee as an outcome of that meeting was to gather information and share that information with the neighborhood. In late fall of 2000 the City conducted an early morning observation to determine the .extent that'Waco Street was being used as a by-pass for Trunk Highway//47. The-results of that observation were transmitted to neighbors in the attached January 9,2001 letter. The .second element of the data collection was to utilize the police department speed trailer to gather information regarding the speeds, numbers and times of vehicle travel down the street. The City has gathered this data at the four locations identified on the attached map. A sample of the reports provided by the comPuter software is attached. The remaining information is being downloaded at the time of this writing and will be shared with the Committee at the meeting. Committee Action: In the January 9, 2001 letter i.t was indicated that this information would be shared by the residents when it became available.
