PC CASE <br /> <br />AUTHORIZE HIRING OF PATROL OFFICER <br /> Rhonda Heryla, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On May 8, 2001 staff received authorization to begin the process to recruit and hire a full-time Patrol <br />Officer to fill a vacancy resulting from Officer Jeff Ameson's retirement. The position was posted in <br />multiple locations including newspapers, other municipalities, and agencies/institutions representing <br />diverse populations. Fifty (50) applications were received b~ the May 31st deadline, and twenty (20) <br />individuals were offered interviews. Nineteen (19) individuals came in for panel interviews on June <br />11th and June 12t~'. Following the first round of interviews, four (4) individuals returned for a second <br />interview and agility test on June 15"'. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Based on the panel's recommendation, staff is recommending that Council authorize the hiring of Ben <br />Rossum for the position of full-time Patrol Officer, contingent on the successful completion of <br />background checks, a psychological examination, and an employment physical. In accordance with the <br />union contract, Mr. Rossum's starting 2001 salary would be $34,699 and he would serve a one-year <br />probationary period. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend hiring Ben Rossum for the position of full-time Patrol Officer, contingent on the <br />successful completion of background checks, a psychological examination, and an employment <br />physical.
