COMMISSION VACANCIES <br /> Rhonda Heryla, Human Resources Manager <br />I Background: ' <br /> <br />I meeting on 12, 2001, was a regarding <br /> At <br /> the <br /> Personnel <br /> Committee <br /> June <br /> there <br /> discussion <br /> the process used to fill commission vacancies, and it was suggested that the process be <br /> reviewed prior to appointments to the Planning Commission. <br />I Tlu-ough research of past meeting minutes and City Council cases, it is clear that the topic <br /> was heavily debated back in 199.6, and as a result, the'"Policy For Appointing Members of <br />I City Boards And Commissions' was developed and unanimously adopted by the City <br /> Council on August 13, 1996. There was also an ordinance changing terms of office from <br />I two to four years and establishing a limitation of two consecutive four-year terms, <br /> effective August 11, 1997. A copy of the policy and the ordinance are attached. <br /> <br />I According to the policy, the evaluation process includes an interview panel comprised of <br /> the chair and vice-chair of the applicable board or commission, two members of the <br /> Personnel Committee of the City Council, and the Administrative Services Manager (now <br />I the Human Resources Manager). At this time, staff is requesting an appointment of two <br /> members of the Personnel Committee of th~ City Council to serve on the interview panel <br /> for the Planning Commission vacancy.
