Norman, City Administrator

Background:

During the September 6, 2001 meeting of the Charter Commission, the Commission
recommended the City Council include an advisory election question on the November 6, 2001
ballot. The question being recommended to the City Council involves the 2000 advisory
question, which posed a preference request for a majority City Council turnover every two years.
The advisory question was rewritten to include language reducing the mayor's term from four
years back to two years prior to its recommendation to the City Council.

Because the advisory election question was rewritten during 'the Charter Commission on
Thursday, September 6, 2001, staff has not had the time to work with the City Attorney to draft
the new language proposed by the Charter Commission. Staff will work with the City Attorney
prior to the City Council meeting of September 11, and will distribute the language to the
Council during their meeting.

Council Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
City Clerk

CC: 09/11/01

Copies also distributed to:
City Attorney

q

-233-
