City Engineer Jankowski stated that he would be contacting the Anoka Co~uj~ Public Works <br />Committee to be on their agenda. ~.~ <br />3. Private Road vs. Public Streets ~~. · <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson inquired as to what the next step should be regarding the issue. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if Chapter 9 permitted private streets. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied no, but noted that the City has allowed for some private streets to be <br />constructed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that private vs. public is not the issue, but the size of the street is. <br />She stated that they should be addressing the size and quality of the streets and then she would <br />not have an opposition to private streets. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied that the reason a developer chooses to develop private streets is so <br />that they can construct smaller streets and get more units. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that it does not make sense to permit private streets. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that if they are going to allow for private streets they need to be <br />wider, no narrower than 26 feet, but preferably 28 feet. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired as to what the City's current residential street standards are. <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that the current width standard is 30 feet. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman requested that staff present different options at the next Public <br />Works Committee meeting. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson noted that she would prefer to have the City plow all of the streets in <br />the City. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Hendriksen, seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman, to adjourn <br />the meeting. <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Public Works Committee adjourned at 8:47 p.m. <br /> <br />Public Works Committee/July 16, 2001 <br /> Page 13 of 13 <br /> <br />-23- <br /> <br /> <br />
