-54- <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that staff proposal would be that the telecommunication <br />companies would pay their proportional share of the cost of the mezzanine, plus pay a rent of <br />$24,000 per year. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if it would be possible for one telecommunication company to <br />take up the entire mezzanine level. ~ <br />City Engineer Olson replied that it would be staffs recommendation that the City~ .~zmuch <br />area one telecommunication company can use. He felt that ¼ of the are would be adequat~/~ <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he liked the idea of having the equipment stored in the inside of the <br />building. He felt that once the cost of the mezzanine is paid for then the remaining funds <br />collected should be placed into the Park Trust fund. He requested that staff verify where the <br />costs would come from to build the mezzanine, because he does not utility costs to go up because <br />the mezzanine was constructed if the funds were taken from the utility fund. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if staff was assured that the mezzanine is suitable for use <br />by carriers such as Verizon. He inquired if there would be any humidity problems with storing <br />the equipment inside. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that the telecommunication companies would have to build a <br />climate-controlled room for the equipment. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler noted that staff is looking to utilize the space on the <br />lower lever for storage of Public Works equipment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if any of the engineering firms have anyone on staff that <br />would be able to inform the City of the needs and requirement for placing this type of equipment <br />inside the base of the ~vater tower. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that staff has discussed the issue with ACE Engineering and <br />they have indicated that they are constructing mezzanines in many of their towers for this <br />purpose. He noted that staff could request a list of where this has been done. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Councilmember Anderson, to recommend that the City <br />Council enter into the contract with CBI, Inc. and AEC Engineering contingent upon Verizon, <br />Inc. entering into a contract with the City to pay the proportional cost of their usage and direct <br />staff to research further information regm'ding the feasibility of telecommunication equipment <br />being located on a mezzanine level. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec and CcJuncilmembers Anderson, Hendriksen, and <br />Kurak.
