Olson, City Engineer Background: Improvement Project 01-31 consists of approximately 3000 feet of 16 inch watermain to connect the existing well south of County Road 116 to the existing water supply west of County Road 116 and Ramsey Boulevard. Authorization to advertise for bids was ordered on August 14, 2001, and bids were received Wednesday, September 19, 2001. Nine (9) bids were received and ranged from $138,690.00 to $189,362.00. A summary of the bidding is as follows: Bidder Amount of Bid Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc. Kober Excavating, Inc. Redstone Construction Volk Sewer & Water, Inc. Park Construction Company W.B Miller, Inc. $138690.00 $155 094.00 $157 756.26 $158.187.50 $158.379.00 $159.523.10 Engineers Estimate $154,715.00 The low bid submitted from Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc. is over $16,000 below the engineers estimate. This low bid represents a very attractive contract price for this project. Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc. has completed similar work satisfactorily in the past and it is the recommendation of Bolton & Menk, Inc. to award the Contract to them. Attached is a letter from Boiton & Menk, Inc. referring to that recommendation. The low bid contractor, Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc., would like to commence utility construction and grading for the project beginning this fall. As part of the Specifications, there is a completion date for April 30, 2002. Recommendation: It is staff's recommendation to award the contract to Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $138,690.00. Council Action: g.0~ll 1~0/~ !w~~di~?
