I I I I I I I REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS Background: The public works committee met on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 and discussed the following two cases: Emergency Vehicle Access into Construction Sites. The City currently does not have any policy to control the sequencing of new developments. Consequently, it is possible for construction actively to occur in locations where it may be difficult to access with emergency vehicles. It was the recommendation for the committee that a policy be developed, which would require that a class 5 driving surface be within 300 feet of any building under construction, and that bituminous pavement be required prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy.. ~ ~ . Action: ~.-O' ~ ~ Motion by Council to ratify the recommendation of the Committee. ~/ I 1 Mailbox Replacement Policy: The City's current written policy specifies only that mailboxes, which are physically struck by plows, will be replaced by the City. A new policy was discussed. The Committee recommended that the policy be modified as follows: l I I I i I Mailboxes which are physically struck by City snow removal equipment will be temporarily replaced by the City within 48 hours of received notification.
