CC Work Session <br />Date: 02/01/2011 <br />By: Jo Thieling <br />Administrative Services <br />Title: <br />Consider Community and Business Event Participation <br />Events anticipated for 2011 include the following: <br />Anoka Area Chamber Gala, February <br />Boy Scout Breakfast, February <br />Mayors Prayer Breakfast, March <br />Mercy Unity Foundation Crystal Ball, April <br />Golf Events (May - September): <br />Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce <br />Anoka/Ramsey Rotary <br />Anoka Technical College <br />Bridge Link <br />Golfin' for Kids <br />Mercy & Unity Hospitals <br />Ramsey Lions <br />North Metro Mayors Association <br />Information <br />Funding Source: <br />2011 General Fund, Council, Misc Operating Expenses, $1900 or Council Contingency. <br />Item #: 2. 4. <br />Background: <br />Annually, the City Council and key city staff participate in various gala and golf events in support of community <br />and business organizations. The City's Discretionary Expenditures policy requires that annually, the City <br />Administrator review upcoming events and discuss attendance by the Council and staff. Additionally, the policy <br />states that annually the Council will establish a maximum amount for community and business relation expenses. <br />The 2011 Council budget for participation in community and business events is $1900. If additional funding is <br />required, staff recommends designating funds from the Council Contingency. <br />It should be noted that annually the EDA members budget for and participate in a number of community and <br />business events for business retention and expansion purposes. Additionally, the HRA members and staff <br />participated in events on behalf of The COR at Ramsey. The budget and member participation is approved by each <br />of those boards annually. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the Council review the list of events, add any events that were omitted, and make a <br />recommendation regarding attendance by members of the council for each event. If additional funding would be <br />required, designate funding from the Council Contingency fund. <br />
