stated that whatever recommendation the Charter Commission sends to the City Council, it has <br />to say that the majority can only be turned over if the Mayor's term is put back at two years. <br /> <br />Amendment by Commissioner Milless and seconded by Commissioner Bertzyk to recommend to <br />Council that the advisory question should read "do you favor changing the Mayor's term from <br />four years back to two years, effective with the 2004 election, in order to have the majority of the <br />City Council stand for an election every two years. <br /> <br />Further discussion. Comment was made that the lan~m~age "changdng the Mayor's term from a <br />four year back to a two year term" was an excellent way to state it. <br /> <br />Amendment carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Vogt, Commissioners Milless, Bertzyk, Childs, <br />Deemer, Ebel, LaMere, and Swanson. Voting No: Commissioner Henke. <br /> <br />Vote on .the original motion: Motion Failed. Voting Yes: None. Voting NO: Cha/rperson <br />Vogt, Commissioners Bertzyk, Childs, Deemer, Ebel, Henke, LaMere, Milless and Swanson. <br /> <br />Commissioner Henke felt that an advisory question will "muddy the water". <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Henke to recommend to Council that question be placed on the ballot, <br />not as an advisory, to amend Section 2.3 by changing the Mayor's term back to two years from <br />the current four years in order for the majority of the City Council to stand for election every two <br />years. <br /> <br />Motion dies for lack ora second. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Deemer and seconded by Commissioner Milless to schedule the next <br />Charter Commission meeting for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Vogt, Commissioners Deemer, Milless, Bertzyk, <br />Childs, Ebel, Henke, LaMere and Swanson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Ebel and seconded by Commission Swanson to adjourn the meeting. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Vogt, Commissioners Ebel, Swanson, Bertzyk, <br />Childs, Deemer, Henke and LaMere.
