CASE

CHARTER VACANCY APPLICANTS AND STATE STATUTES DEALING WITH THE
PROCESS OF APPOINTING CHARTER COMMISSIONERS
By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk

Background:

Charter Commissioners are appointed to serve a four-year term and are eligible to serve two
consecutive, four-year terms. May 2001 will mark the end of two consecutive, four year terms
for Dennis Donovan, Keith Kiefer, Richard Netzloff, and Virginia Spain-Brist, which means they
cannot be appointed without taking a "break". The deadline'
for applying for the Commission is February 28, 2001. Thus far, the City has received 19
applications. I am sending the applications to you in your packet, not attached to your agenda.
Attached to this case is a copy of Minnesota State Statutes, Section 410.05, dealing with
appointments on Charter Commissions.

Commission Action:

No action is necessary at this time.
