Voting Yes: Chairperson Peterson, Commissioners Keller, Spain-Brier, <br />Amderson, Dbnovan, and Vest. Voting No: None. Absent: Mar'n, Netzlofi", and Swokowsld. <br /> <br />Case ~: Number of Council Seats <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman stated that during the Chez. er Commission meeting of January 28, <br />1999, the Commission reviewed information from a League of Minnesota Cities reformation <br />packet. Pan of that infestation discussed the number of CounciI seats for a City Council. tt was <br />the consensus of the Commission to continue discussion of the number of elected representatives <br />to the R. amsey City Council. <br /> <br />Chairperson Peter'son stated that seven seems to be a common number. <br /> <br />City Adminisu-ator Non-n~ replied that that was the discussion at the last meeting. He explained <br />'that in some cities ~ere is an even number, but the Mayor does not have a vote. <br /> <br />Chai~erson Peterson stated that there are a lot committees that meet frequently and increasing <br />the amount of Councilmembe~ could reduce some of the burden. <br /> <br />City Anorney Goodrich reviewed a League of Mirmesota Survey, which stated that the average <br />nt0wnber on City Council seats wz~ 5.5. <br /> <br />Commissioner Keller stated that o ',~o <br /> =on,= to seven seats would add more d{versity. <br /> <br />Commissioner Vest stated ~at it would allow for more acgountabiliry. <br /> <br />Chai~-person Peterson questioned if ~e increase of seats would depend on the City going with a <br />ward system <br /> <br />Commissioner Donov~ replied that d~ere are plenty of' people that Could fill the positions so it <br />shouldn't be a concern.
