CASE #

UPDATE ON CHARTER APPOINTMENTS
By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk

Background:

Notification of the vacancies on the Charter Commission were advertised in the Anoka County
Union, The Ramsey Resident, and on the local cable channel. Twenty-three applications were
received. At the direction of the Charter Commission, a questionnaire was distributed to all the
candidates to allow the initial screening. The Commission selected eight candidates for
interviews and those interviews were held the week of March 19, 2001.

At the conclusion of the interview process, the Ramsey Charter Commission based its selection
for recommendation not only on the candidate's interest and commitment to serve on the
Commission, but also took into consideration other issues such as a balance of geographical
representation, gender balance, and a reasonable balance of political perspective.

As the Commission is aware, Timothy Vogt is eligible for reappointment .and indicated an
interest in continuing on the Commission. The Charter Commission interviewing panel
(consisting of Chairperson Kiefer, and Commissioners Donovan and Netzloff) recommended the
following to the Honorable Judge Joseph Quinn: Timothy Vogt, Sandra Bertzyk, Ben Deemer,
John Lichter and Darlene Milless. The letters of introduction and the completed questionnaire
for these people were sent on to the Judge's office. Since then a letter was received from Judge
Quinn's office requesting the information on the candidates not reconm~ended for appointment.
That information has been sent and staff is waiting for the Judge's appointment.

Commission Action:

No action is required.

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

City Clerk

City Administrator

Charter: 04/19/01
