Council tabled action on the ordinance u, ntil the Augflst 26 Council meeting to allow the prop~y <br />owners more time to meet with Councilmernbers regarding the future land use of this property,. <br />In accordance with Council's direction, the ordinance was being presented for consideration. <br />City staff recommended adoption of the ordinance in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec noted that the Council had, received a letter from the property owners requesting <br />that action be tabled to allow for additional time to meet with the rest of the Councilmembers. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman advised the Council that meeting individually can appear as being a <br />serial meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec requested that the Council discuss the issue o£serial meetings at a work session. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated that he did not see a reason for acting on the issue if the <br />applicant is requesting for more time. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired if there were any timing concerns. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Frolik replied no. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook recommended rezoning the property to mixed use. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Frolik replied that the issue would have to go back to the <br />Planning Commission if that is the route the Council wants to go. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich noted that -the Council could table action for further discussion. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson questioned the reasoning for changing the zoning. <br /> <br />Corrm~uni~ Development Director Frolik stated that in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan <br />they have to rezone the property to low density residential. It' the Council is not inclined to make <br />that change the Council would have to amend the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Cotmcitmember Cook stated that 70 percent of the property is surrounded by residential and the <br />remainder is surrounded by conn-nercial businesses. He stated that he personally would not have <br />a problem with allowing residential or commercial development on the property,. It is a very <br />valuable piece of property, and there could be a lot of uses so he thought it made sense to let the <br />market determine the use. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson ageed. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec recormnended tabling action to a work session for further discussion. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Strorrmaen, seconded by Councilmember Elvig, to table action to a <br />work session. <br /> <br />City Council/August 26, 2003 <br /> Page 16 of 25 <br /> <br /> <br />
