!

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
'1
I
I
I
I
I
I

City Engineer Jankowski replied that the City has been successful in the past with feathering, but
will be able to mill if necessary.

Gerald Purdy Iodine Street, Ramsey Terrace, stated that he does a lot ofwalking and does not see
the roads in that bad of shape. He has a sprinkling system located close to the roadway and
questioned if the overlay will be wider than the existing roadway.

City Engineer Jankowski replied that Mr. Purdy's sprinkler heads should be out of harms way
unless they are directly adjacent to the current pavement.

Mr. Purdy inquired as to why the overlay is being done since the roadway will crack anyway and
in a year look the same as it currently does.

City Engineer Jankowski replied that the streets will not look the same in one year. He explained
that the type of cracking that will show after a year or two are the cracks that go completely
across the road.

Mr. Purdy inquired if the roads were not o .v. erlayed how long would the roads last.

City Engineer Jankowski replied that if the roads were not overlayed it would hold up until
pieces of the road started breaking apart and then the road would be very costly to repair and
could happen very quickly.

Mr. Purdy inquired as to when last overlay was completed.

Mr. Jankowski replied that the road were last sealed in 1990 and constructed in. 1985.

Mayor Gamec stated that the City is trying to prevent major repair from being needed to the
roads.

City Engineer Jankowski reviewed the City's maintenance plan.

Councilmember Anderson stated that in Reilley's Estates there is no concrete curb 0nly
bituminous and questioned what will happen with the cubing with the overlay.

City Engineer Jankowski replied that they will overlay right into the curb which will result in
losing approximately an 1 ½ inches of the existing curb. He explained that it would be possible
to mill the curb, but to do so would be quite expensive and drive up the cost of the overlay.

Motion to by Councilmember Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to close the
public hearing.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Anderson, Hendriksen, Connolly,
and Zimmerman. Voting No: None.

City Council/February 8, 2000
