I <br />! <br />I <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />FC CASE <br /> <br />AUTHORIZATION TO AWARD BID FOR COSTRUCTION OF NEW FIRE <br />STATION <br /> By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The fire station #2 project was bid out in three sections; General Contractor, Mechanical and Electrical. <br />Bids were opened on February 29 at Ramsey City Hall. Staff from the architectural fu'm of SEH hosted the <br />bid opening. <br /> <br />The Fire Chief will be acting as the Construction Manager to coordinate the efforts of the three sections of <br />work. Also note that part of the contract includes liquidated damages of $500/day for delays beyond 240 <br />days from the start date. <br /> <br />SEH recommends the following contractors for each of the three sections of the fire station project: <br /> <br />Contractor Name Area of Bid Bid Amount <br />Ebert Inc. General Contractor $1,177,000 <br /> <br />Anderson Mechanical, Inc. <br /> <br />Mechanical <br /> <br />$212,513 <br /> <br />Vander Vegt Electric, Inc. Electrical $128,815 <br /> <br />SEH has had experience with the recommended contractors. <br /> <br />Funding: <br /> <br />Funding will be from the sale of Lease Revenue Bonds sold in December 1999. The cost of approximately <br />$50,000 for additional square footage to accommodate a interim Council chambers may be absorbed in <br />whole or in part by interest accrued by the bond revenues to date. Otherwise an intra fund loan from the <br />Landfill Trust Fund may be considered to cover the additional expense. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staffrecommends to City Council to award bids to the contractors per the architects recommendations. <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Recommend to City Council to award bids per the Architectural firm's and staffs recommendation. <br /> <br />Council <br /> Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend Council adopt Resolutions 00-03-XXX, 00-03-XXX, and 00-03XX awarding bids <br />pertaining to the construction of fire station #2 as follows: Ebert Inc as General Contractor, Anderson <br />Mechanical for mechanical services and Vander Vegt for electrical services. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br />City Administrator <br />Finance Director <br />Fire Chief <br /> <br />FC: 03/14/00 <br /> <br />/(,,'7 <br /> <br /> <br />
