'l I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I '1 CASE # ~:~ INTRODUCE SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION ORDINANCE By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor Background: Bhe purpose of this case is to introduce, for adoption, an ordinance establishing regulations for dewalks in urban residential subdivisions. The Park and Recreation and Planning ommissions have been examining this issue since October and December 1999 respectively. oth Commissions are in full agreement on the need for sidewalks as detailed in the attached ordinance. Observations: 'For the Park and Recreation Commission's meeting of February 10, 2000, developers were mailed an invitation to comment on the proposed ordinance. Only one responded and appeared be generally in favor of sidewalks. Attached are the Park and Recreation Commission's · meeting minutes pertaining to this matter. On 6, 2000, Planning a public hearing on ordinance March the Commission conducted the draft and subsequently recommended City Council adoption. Staff also recommends adoption of this ordinance. As Council is aware, the Planning Commission will revise Chapter 9 of City code to reflect the Comprehensive Plan. This endeavor is not expected to be complete however, until late in the year. The proposed ordinance will ensure, in the interim, that new subdivisions will be designed and constructed to the level and quality required by the City. Council Action: Motion to introduce Ordinance #00-XX amending Section 9.50.50 "Construction of Improvements" of Chapter 9 of the City Code to establish regulations for sidewalks in urban residential subdivisions.
