The fa'st ground broken for
cultivation in Anoka County in the Minnesota Territory was six acres in front of I.W.
Patch's house in the town of Ramsey. The land was cultivated by Cornelius Pitman in
the spring of 1850.

· The city's continuing tradition of progress and growth: from sealers bearing hard times
to succeed at fanning the area 150 years ago, to the commercial and residential
expansion and growth today.

SOURCE IVIATERIALS
The History of Ramsey by Jean James. Researched, x~xitten, and published as a
Bicentennial project in 1976. From the library of the Minnesota Historical Society.

A History of Minnesota Cities, Minnesota Historical Society.

?tv?asa?

sq
