Council member <br /> <br />introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />[LES OLUTION #O0-08-XLXX <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY FOR INDUSTRIAL PARK <br />DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by its Resolution No. 00-06-162 adopted on June 27, 2000, the City approved the <br />acquisition of certain real property by eminent domain for industrial park purposes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said Resolution No.00-06-162 identified the real property to be acquired by the <br />use of Anoka County Property Identification Numbers ("P~'qs") and subsequently the City has <br />determined that the Prqs used were inaccurate in said Resolution and has determined that an amended <br />resolution needs to be adopted accurately reflecting the proper PkNs and legal descriptions of the <br />property to be acquired and it is for this purpose that this amended resolution is adopted; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey (the "City") has previously developed land within the City <br />for industrial development purposes known as industrial parks; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City has previously directed staff to negotiate for the acquisition of an <br />approximate 55.8-acre tract of land within the City known as the Ma. kens Property; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the direct negotiation and purchase of the Makens Property has to date not been <br />successful; and <br /> <br />!,VHEREAS, the City desires to acquire additional land for industrial park purposes; and <br /> <br />I <br />! <br />I <br />I <br />i <br />I <br />i <br />I <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, industrial park development encourages economic development by creating jobs <br />in the City and increases property values; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City's current industrial parks are nearly fully developed with few remaining <br />sites available for development; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City has an interest in developing industrial parks in order to attract industrial <br />development by offering managed site control; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, site control allows the City to focus on quality development and manage gowth <br />development both of which are in the public interest and contribute to attracting industrial development <br />to the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, industrial park development allows for diversification of property tax dollars <br />which reduces the property tax demand on residential properties; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is more difficult for the private sector to develop an industrial park than it is the <br />public sector because of the large holding costs related to this type of development; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City continues to receive numerous inquiries about the availability of quality <br />industrial sites within the City; and <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />144 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION # 00-06-162 <br /> Page 1 of 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
