CC Regular Session <br />Date: 02/22/2011 <br />By: Tim Himmer <br />Engineering/Public Works <br />Item #: 5. 4. <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Consider award of contract for geotechnical services and material testing. <br />Background: <br />The current 2 year geotechnical and material testing contract with Northern Technologies, Inc. (NTI) expired on <br />December 31, 2010. Staff met with representatives of NTI to discuss the possibility of extending the existing <br />contract for another year. NTI stated that they would be willing to extend the existing contract for another 2 years, <br />without any revisions to terms. This means that the City will be able to take advantage of 2009 pricing, and <br />continue to utilize a local company through 2012. <br />This item was discussed in work session on January 18, 2011, under staff input, and it was the consensus of the <br />Council to extend the existing contract with NTI for another 2 years. Staff stated that they would be bringing this <br />matter forward as a consent item on the next available regular Council meeting for final ratification. Attached is <br />the proposed contract, which is being reviewed by the City attorney for legal matters. <br />Observations: <br />NTI has been representing the City on all public infrastructure projects, whether they are publicly or privately <br />initiated, since 2009.
