Councilmember Wise introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #10 -10 -233 <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS <br />MONTH <br />WHEREAS, a total of 747 households with 1,301 individuals were identified as <br />homeless on January 27, 2010, of which 490 were children, 49 were unaccompanied <br />minors age 17 or less, and 106 were youth age 18 -21. This demonstrates a forty (40) <br />percent increase in the number of households, a twenty-seven (27) percent increase in the <br />number of children, a twenty-nine (29) percent increase in the number of unaccompanied <br />minors, and a ninety-six (96) percent increase in the number of youth age 18 -21 <br />identified as homeless since the 2009 count; and <br />WHEREAS, the Anoka County Community Continuum -of -Care, along with the <br />Heading Home Anoka Education Committee, is sponsoring a countywide education and <br />awareness campaign to help end homelessness in our communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Anoka County Community Continuum -of -Care and the <br />Heading Home Anoka committees play a vital role in bringing together our communities <br />and establishing needed partnerships to educate residents and support efforts to end <br />homelessness; and <br />WHEREAS, it is essential that all citizens of the City of Ramsey be aware of the <br />importance of ending homelessness in our community and the impact their participation <br />can have on ensuring that all individuals and families have access to a safe, stable, and <br />adequate place to call home, and <br />WHEREAS, this year's event of Homelessness ... the Experience, an art expo of <br />high school students, local artists, and persons who are or have been homeless, is a <br />unique opportunity to join forces to raise awareness and achieve the goal of ending <br />homelessness in our community. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the City Council of the City of Ramsey herby calls upon all citizens in the <br />City of Ramsey to join the Anoka County Community Continuum -of -Care and <br />heading Home Anoka committees to help end homelessness in our community. <br />2) That the month of November is herby proclaimed "Homelessness Awareness <br />Month" in the City of Ramsey. <br />
